White Sulphur provides a great opportunity for our students and community. Our Dual Language Program of Choice will help grow bilingual and culturally diverse students in the East Hall community. It will help cultivate native Spanish speakers who are new to the English Language and support Hall County School Districts Balanced Scorecard Goals 4 and 6.
»Goal 4: Continue to increase innovative school and program choices for HCSD families and students.
»Goal 6: Increase percentage of HCSD high school students who graduate with bilingual seal on diploma: by 2020, 1/3 of graduates earn bilingual seal on diploma.
The Dual Language Path at WSES is a cohort group that begins in Kindergarten. Students receive instruction in both English and Spanish through the immersion model each day. The Dual Language Path will be extended each year as the cohort group progresses to the next grade. The path is optional for parents as they enroll their students at WSES. Although students in the current WSES district have priority, the Dual Language Path is also open to students outside the WSES attendance zone as a Program of Choice, as capacity allows.
Educating students in two languages positively impacts intellectual growth and cognitive development at the elementary level (Collier & Thomas, 2012).
Applications are available below for students who reside outside the WSES attendance zone. Applications will be accepted as long as there is space in the program, but transportation must be provided, if the students reside outside the WSES attendance zone.
Inquiries about the program can be made by contacting our front office 770-532-0945.
